Text Message Server - New in version 6 |
| |
Released at the end of 2006, v6 brings a good number of new and enhanced features to this already very powerful SMS solution. |
| |
 |
| |
Active Directory Integration
When configured for this mode, the software will authenticate users against the Active Directory and map their properties to Text Message Server's internal user records. Changes made to the Active Directory will be picked up by the software at the user’s next logon. |
 |
| |
XML Messaging
A bi-directional XML file interface has been incorporated into version 6, allowing XML feeds to be automatically converted into SMS messages. The XML Schema is extensible so that integrators may add their own tags to provide cross-referencing with internal systems. Bulk messaging is fully supported allowing single or multiple messages to be delivered to multiple recipients. Per message tags are used to specify the level of message tracking required, this ranges from Send Only with no feedback on message progress to a full end-to-end process where each message can be fully tracked and tied back to the original system. If tracking is required, the system will produce an output XML file. |
 |
| |
TMS Print Driver - 'Print' to SMS
Using the new Virtual Print Driver, users can send SMS messages through a special text-only printer. In its simplest form, this enables users of standard desktop applications to send single SMS messages by simply 'printing'. However, the system will also allow for 'printing' multiple messages to multiple recipients from a single multi-line document, a database or XML feed. |
 |
| |
SQL Server/MSDE Support
TMS v6 has been redeveloped to support SQL Server Express 2005 as the default database. This is the replacement for MSDE and incurs no license cost. For larger system,s or where the client prefers, the system will operate using SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 (all versions). Microsoft Access is still fully supported, but the new reporting features will not be available. For existing users a full upgrade path is available to migrate existing Access data to SQL Server. |
 |
| |
Enterprise Reporting
A new reporting system has been created to provide summary and detailed reports for both outbound and inbound messaging.
Summary reports include graphical dashboards showing the current usage/trends over standard reporting periods, billing reports that show cost breakdowns by users and departments and volume-based reports showing national and international messaging, grouped into various categories.
Detailed reports allow identification of which users are sending to specific numbers or provide a breakdown of messages by user or recipient, or to track inbound message traffic.
In total there are 21 predefined reports. These can be easily created either by Avanquest or by the client with the purchase of the separate Report Designer Tool. This tool has a full WYSIWYG interface to define the layout for specific database queries. The Report Viewer application can be installed on any PC that has the TMS Client installed and incorporates a security logon. |
 |
| |
Scheduled Data Purging
Version 6 includes a new tab on the Server Configuration Control Panel Applet to enable and define how and when data should be purged from the Database. If enabled, automatical removal of inbound & outbound SMS messages that have reached a defined age is available. |
